Night Vision Goggles (NVG) enhance available light in the first-person view. Rise uses a color night-vision presentation.

Use

Select the goggles in the cargo manifest, under your personal baggage or vehicle cabin inventory, and use the displayed Shift+U Use command. Use the same item again to remove it. The optical effect applies to the first-person view; switching to an external camera does not apply it to that camera.

The overlay includes a compass and a central RNG readout. Range is shown in metres below 1 km and kilometres at greater distances; RNG --- indicates that a range is not available.

Lighting

NVG amplifies available light; it does not make opaque clouds transparent or create illumination where no signal exists. Enhancement fades as ambient light approaches daytime levels. Airglow and other faint cloud lighting can become more visible through the goggles.

Cockpit correction: x64 development build, 16 October 2026

The cockpit correction described here is implemented and has passed automated lighting and native-renderer tests. Live flight validation and screenshots from the updated client are still pending; this section does not assert availability in an already distributed release.

Cockpit surfaces and windshield markings receive enhanced ambient light on both sides of the cloud deck. Below and within the clouds, they use the enhanced scattered light. Above the deck, they transition to enhanced sky light, avoiding the earlier loss of cockpit enhancement during ascent. Returning below the deck does not require removing and re-equipping the goggles.

Powered monitor and tablet images retain their colors and contrast. Illuminated labels are composited separately from surface lighting so that increasing the visibility of panels does not apply the same gain to their lettering. HUD and GUI brightness are unchanged by this correction.

The response follows available light rather than flight mode, airspeed or Autoflyte engagement. Sky illumination still decreases toward space, and zero sky illumination remains zero. The in-world simulator retains its existing lighting behavior.
