Night Vision Goggles (NVG) enhance available light in the first-person view. Rise uses a color night-vision presentation.
Use
Select the goggles in the cargo manifest, under your personal baggage or vehicle cabin inventory, and use the displayed Shift+U Use command. Use the same item again to remove it. The optical effect applies to the first-person view; switching to an external camera does not apply it to that camera.
The overlay includes a compass and a central RNG readout. Range is shown in metres below 1 km and kilometres at greater distances; RNG --- indicates that a range is not available.
Lighting
NVG amplifies available light; it does not make opaque clouds transparent or create illumination where no signal exists. Enhancement fades as ambient light approaches daytime levels. Airglow and other faint cloud lighting can become more visible through the goggles.
The enhanced cockpit, display and cloud-lighting behavior described below is available in the x64 client. It follows available light during ground and hover operation, atmospheric flight, ascent, suborbital coast, orbit and re-entry. Airspeed and Autoflyte engagement do not select the effect. The in-world simulator retains its existing lighting and display behavior.
Cockpit and displays
Cockpit surfaces and windshield markings receive enhanced ambient light below, within and above the cloud deck. Crossing the deck in either direction does not require removing and re-equipping the goggles.
NVG also enhances light reflected from cockpit surfaces by the existing interior lamps, including red cabin lighting. This remains useful above the atmosphere, where sky illumination can be very low. Cabin power still controls the source light; goggles do not illuminate an unpowered, otherwise unlit cabin.
Powered monitors and tablets show a small halo around bright features and slight highlight washout toward white. Lettering stays sharp and warning colors remain distinct. The halo scales with view height so it remains visible at higher resolutions. Dark screen areas remain dark away from nearby highlights, and each screen's glow stays confined to that screen. Low-power screen blanking still applies.
Display interlacing remains visible. NVG does not add delayed instrument data, image persistence or extra flicker. Removing the goggles or switching to an external camera restores the normal screen appearance. GUI, HUD and illuminated panel labels do not receive the monitor halo.
Cloud exposure and color preservation
Scattered cloud light and visible airglow are enhanced together. Bright cloud highlights retain their color through the deck; there is no fixed altitude at which the goggles switch to a white presentation. Colors can still vary with the mixture of airglow, scattered light and local illumination.
Enhancement follows current lighting in both ascent and descent, including above-cloud, suborbital and orbital views. Cloud opacity and weather are unaffected. The goggles use Rise's color night-vision presentation rather than a measured spectral simulation of Vieneo's atmosphere.
