When you think of the data Displayed by the scanner it is a bit of a misnomer
unless you are doing an invasive scan.
The displayed information is is more accurately just the Mode S data
being transmitted by the other vehicle
Invasive scans are EXTREMELY short range (under half a km typically)
and use Ultrasound or Gamma Radiation. People look down on you trying to radiate them.
