Support Structures are a category of buildings in Rise that directly impact the efficiency and productivity of a colony. As a colony expands, the number of jobs increases, and without proper infrastructure, worker efficiency declines. Support Structures help mitigate this decline by improving logistics, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the well-being of workers.

The Role of Support Structures

When a new facility, such as a Mine or Farmstead, is first established, it operates at relatively high efficiency. However, as production scales up—with additional equipment, workers, and storage needs—efficiency begins to drop due to bottlenecks in infrastructure. Properly placed Support Structures can:

  • Improve worker productivity by reducing travel time and fatigue.
  • Maintain equipment to prevent breakdowns and inefficiencies.
  • Provide essential services that allow workers to operate at peak performance.

Examples of Support Structures

Farming Operations

At a Farmstead, Support Structures ensure that agricultural processes run smoothly. Key examples include:

  • **Irrigation Systems** – Increases food yields and reduces dependence on unpredictable weather.
  • **Water Towers & Wells** – Provides a stable water supply for workers and growing the food.
  • **Repair Garages** – Maintains and repairs harvesting equipment to prevent downtime.

Mining Operations

A Mine starts with 50% efficiency, but as production expands, efficiency can drop below 30% due to worker shortages and logistical constraints. Support Structures help sustain operations by providing:

  • **Landing Pads** – Allows quick transport of personnel and materials.
  • **Tooling Shops** – Supplies workers with necessary equipment and replacement parts.
  • **Security Offices** – Protects valuable resources from theft and ensures worker safety.
  • **Infirmaries** – Provides medical care to keep workers healthy and operational.

Airfields

An airfield needs Support Structures to manage incoming and outgoing traffic efficiently:

  • **Airport Fire Rescue (ARFF):** Ensures rapid response to emergencies, enhancing safety during operations.
  • **Deicing Equipment:** Keeps aircraft operational in cold weather conditions by preventing ice buildup.
  • **Ground Support Equipment (GSE):** Includes tools and vehicles for servicing aircraft between flights.

Townships

For a growing township, Support Structures enhance quality of life and economic stability:

  • **Water Treatment Facilities** – Provides clean drinking water and sanitation, reducing illness.
  • **Waste Processing Centers** – Handles garbage and recyclables to prevent pollution and disease.
  • **Distribution Warehouses** – Organizes and stores consumer goods for efficient delivery.
  • **Public Transit Hubs** – Reduces travel time for workers by improving transportation networks.
  • **Commerce Hubs** – Facilitates trade and economic growth with markets and supply centers.
  • **Medical Clinics** – Provides essential healthcare services to keep workers productive.
  • **Communications Arrays** – Ensures reliable long-range communication for administration and coordination.

Strategic Considerations

  • Plan for Support Structures as your colony expands to prevent efficiency loss.
  • Identify the biggest bottlenecks and build structures that alleviate them first.
  • Balance workforce distribution to avoid overwhelming workers with too many tasks.

By investing in Support Structures, colonies in Rise can sustain high levels of productivity, ensuring long-term success and stability.
