Flight Simulators

From Rise: The Vieneo Province

Flight simulators in Rise: The Vieneo Province provide a place to learn aircraft controls, practise landings, and explore flight without risking a real vehicle or your character's life. The simulators are free of charge; you do not need to own or rent the aircraft you want to practise flying.

Location and access

The simulator bay is inside the Unistellar Industries, LLC building in the Financial District of Deois, at approximately S4.209 W26.106. Look for UI Building (Taxi, Flight Simulators) in the Waypoint Manager. Older help text may call it the Deois UI Building (Taxi Fares).

  1. Drive to the building in your C-2A Dasher or another ground vehicle small enough to enter the garage.
  2. Select 1] Enter Simulator Bay from the Intermedia menu when it appears.
  3. Walk through the bay to the simulator you want to use. The Intermedia menu changes as you approach each simulator entrance.
  4. Select Enter T-19 Simulator, Enter W-6 Simulator, or Enter E-11 Simulator.

If the selected simulator is already occupied and no unit of that type is available, you will receive a message that it is in use. Try another type or return when one becomes available.

Available simulators

The bay offers three vehicle types:

Simulator Vehicle type Useful practice
T-19 Stratomaster Atmospheric aircraft Conventional takeoffs and landings, circuit flying, approaches, and aircraft handling.
W-6 Manx Aerospace vehicle with limited VTOL capability Atmospheric flight, ascent to orbit, orbital manoeuvring, and reentry. VTOL performance depends on the aircraft's weight and available thrust.
E-11 Saint VTOL-capable aerospace vehicle Vertical takeoffs and landings, handling a large transport, orbital flight, and reentry.

The T-19 is a useful starting point for learning conventional flight. The W-6 and E-11 provide opportunities to practise the transition between atmospheric and orbital operations. See each vehicle's article for its capabilities and operating information.

Starting and pausing a session

A new session begins at the takeoff position for Deois Runway 36, with the simulation paused. Check your controls and aircraft configuration before beginning.

Press Pause/Break to unfreeze the simulation. Press it again to freeze the flight while you study the instruments or prepare your next action. This is the default flight-freeze binding; use your configured binding if you have changed it.

The simulator uses controlled training conditions, with no wind, turbulence, or lightning. Practise the aircraft's controls and procedures here, and allow for weather conditions when you later operate outside the simulator.

Repositioning and restarting

While seated in a simulator, the Intermedia displays the following options:

Menu option Function
1] Exit Simulator Ends the simulator session and returns you to the simulator bay.
2] Reposition Runway Returns the simulated aircraft to the takeoff position for Deois Runway 36. Use this to repeat a departure or restart after a crash.
3] Reposition Final Places the simulated aircraft on the approach to Deois, approximately 5 km before the LUMEN final approach fix. Use this to practise approaches and landings without flying an entire circuit.
4] Reposition to Active Waypoint Moves the simulated aircraft to your active waypoint. Activate the waypoint and select it as your navigation target first. This option uses ground placement and is intended for surface locations.

Repositioning replenishes the simulated aircraft's fuel, repairs simulated damage, and pauses the simulation again. It also resets aircraft configuration, so check the landing gear, flaps, parking brake, and other controls before pressing Pause/Break to continue.

To leave the building after selecting Exit Simulator, walk back to an exit foyer and choose 1] Exit to Street. You return to the ground vehicle you brought to the bay.

Crashes and deaths

Deaths in the simulator do not count against your character's death total or reputation. A simulated crash does not trigger the normal death penalties or destroy an aircraft you own.

The simulator can still represent a crash or aircraft failure. When that happens, use a reposition option to reset the exercise, or select Exit Simulator to leave. This makes the bay a useful place to learn from mistakes and repeat difficult manoeuvres.

Simulator activity is for training. Normal cargo, fuel, cash, and inventory transfers are unavailable while you are operating a simulator.

Simulated time and actual flight time

Simulator flights are identified as simulated in your logbook. They record practice in a simulator and are distinguished from flights made in actual aircraft and aerospace vehicles in the game world.

The current time-tracking system also distinguishes total connected playtime from operational time. Operational time is credited in 0.1-hour (six-minute) intervals when qualifying activity occurs; simply sitting idle in the simulator does not build operational time.

The old aggregate simulator/non-simulator hour counters have been retired. This does not remove the simulated designation from individual logbook entries. See Logbooks for the explanation of current time tracking and preserved legacy experience.
