From Rise: The Vieneo Province

The A-4, E-series, P-13, and, to some extent, the W-6 are capable of vertical take-off and landing. These craft have axial directional thrusters pointing up, down, left, right, forward and back to allow hover and six degrees of freedom in the atmosphere, and acceleration in any direction in space. The up and down thrusters are activated by F9 and F8 on the keyboard respectively, left and right by 7 and 9 on the numeric keypad. All six degrees of freedom can at present only be controlled using a game controller with a hat switch - the hat controlling up, down, left and right and buttons 3 and 4 controlling forward and backwards thrust (which is distinct from main engine thrust).

It may be worth noting that the power of the three thrusters is not always the same. On the E-series, the up-thruster can generate 2 G of acceleration (which is in fact slightly more than the main engines at full throttle!), while the down-thruster can only generate approximately 1 G. Thus it is not uncommon to roll inverted in orbit in order to more effectively slow one's rate of ascent.
